In the Eighties and when advertising jingles sang out about every product, the line “You deserve a break today” became part of McDonald’s brand personality.
Looking at everything going on around the world, and in our own backyard, we all need a lift. We all need stress busters.
In Hong Kong, the favorite weekend pastime for many is horse racing at Sha Tin. Meanwhile, at Happy Valley Racecourse, the most unique setting for a racecourse in the world, is the city’s favorite midweek break- a Happy Wednesday fun night out.
Here is where there’s a buffet of ‘live’ music, different venues for different folks and with most of everything happening at the Beer Garden.
Here is also where a very international group of regulars, mainly in their twenties, and those new to Hong Kong come together to connect and have that often forgotten thing called…FUN!
(It’s another Happy Wednesday)
Of course the main course is the horse racing- but presented very differently than it is in Sha Tin.
At Happy Valley, the racing is truly up close and personal and what could be termed “chillaxed”. Everything and everyone are more “chillaxed”- the jockeys, the race goers and the overall vibe.
Happy Wednesday is where one can reach out and get to know Hong Kong’s very international cast of riders- Zac Purton aka the Zac Attack from Australia.
There’s the Brazilian magic man Joao Moreira.
There’s Karis Teetan, the Mauritian Magician.
Alberto Sanna and Umberto Rispoli come from Italy.
There’s Irishman Neil Callan, South African riders Grant van Niekerk, Aldo Domeyer and Lyle Hewitson plus Chad Schofield who’s South African, but has spent most of his years riding in Australia.
On the subject of “The Chadster”, he’s the lucky guy who managed to successfully woo and recently marry the very pretty- and smart-Hannah Butler.
Happy Wednesday. It’s where the good times roll. Over and over again. And it’s where everyone is welcome.
