If there’s a certainty in horse racing, it’s that Joao Moreira will be crowned Champion Hong Kong Jockey for the 2020-2021 season.

With over 150 winners for the season- the Brazilian Magic Man rode a treble on Sunday just for good measure- this makes it the third time that he’s won the title as has his nemesis the Zac Attack who some of us are tipping to have a very big night out at Happy Valley tomorrow.

As for Joao, with support from trainers Caspar Fownes and John Size, he has been on some of the city’s best up and coming gallopers- Courier Wonder, Master Eight and Killer Bee- as well as winning this year’s Hong Kong Derby aboard Sky Darci.

It all augurs well for the mercurial Brazilian when it comes to Group 1 horsepower and when the next Hong Kong racing season starts up again in September.

Of course with great responsibility and great success comes the need to make a song and dance about The Magic Man’s magical season.
